Dear Faithful,

Glory to Jesus Christ!

We wish His Eminence Archbishop Michael "Many Years" (Mnogaya Lyeta! Xronia Polla!) on the occasion of his Name Day (St. Michael, First Metropolitan of Kiev, September 30).

So, why do we say and sing "God, grant you many years"? Historically, it was sung for the Emperor and his family at the end of Liturgy (i.e., after receiving Holy Communion). Therefore, the timing is important. It's not just wishing the royal family many years for long life and earthly victory, but many years in the presence of Christ

The "Many Years" chant eventually spread to newly ordained bishops and then to everyone. Today, it's like the Orthodox "Happy Birthday," sung on special occasions. So the next time someone sings "Many Years" for you, remember that you’re being honored like royalty — but even more, you’re being wished many years of repentance, and many years of being filled with the love of Christ.

Other announcements:

  • We have Liturgy this Wednesday at 8am for the Feast of the Holy Protection of the Theotokos.

  • This Sunday is a potluck Sunday.

  • This Sunday is also Church Musician Appreciation Day. We are grateful for our wonderful choir, and for all who labor to beautify our services.

  • You can read about last weekend's Mountain Men's Respite in this writeup, thoughtfully prepared by our subdeacon.

  • I will be traveling to Chicago later this week for the OCAMPR (Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion) Conference, where Presvytera Krista will present.

Lastly, here is our year in review published on the Diocesan Website.

May the Lord grant you many blessed years!

Your servant in Christ,

Fr Gregory

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

St. Lawrence County is the largest county, by area, in our state.

What an incredible opportunity to build the Orthodox Church here in the North Country.

We are not here to cater to a certain demographic or cultural group.

We are here to bring Christ to everyone.
